Memorial Service for Tom Aprile

Image
VCCA Fellow Tom Aprile died suddenly at home during the night of September 23, 2010. A six-time VCCA Fellow, Tom was a sculptor and professor in the University of Iowa School of Art and Art History. He was married to VCCA Fellow Laura Young. In addition to individual residencies, Tom and Laura were in residence together at VCCA several times. Tom constructed "VCCA Labyrinth", a glass brick sculpture, on the lawn on the north side the VCCA Fellows residence. It was dedicated in October 2003 "for Laura Young". We are grateful for this reminder of Tom, his good humor and his exuberant creativity. His work was featured in numerous one-person exhibitions in New York, Chicago, and Los Angeles and was included in group exhibitions across the country. He was the recipient of two Pollock-Krasner Foundation Fellowships, a New York Foundation Fellowship and a Fulbright Grant to Nigeria. There will be a memorial service for Tom on November 6, 2010, at 3:30 pm at the Studio Arts...
