News from the Fulbright Front
Visual artist Bradley Wester has just returned from a Fulbright trip to Japan where he spent the summer as a Senior Specialist Fulbright Fellowship Visiting Artist & Lecturer at Kyoto University of Art & Design.
Says Bradley: "The Fulbright is to develop a body of work, the second body of work in a trilogy made in three distinct cultures using the ephemera from each culture as primary art material while immersed in that country's art and cultural history."
Part one of the trilogy was created when Bradley was a Visiting Artist at The American Academy in Rome and the work was exhibited in New York. Part two happened thanks to the Fulbright in Japan. Part three will be completed in the future in Istanbul, Turkey, to which Bradley has already made a preliminary visit. Three symmetrical and distinct cultures are chosen: Rome, seat of Western Art if you will; Japan, the East, Asian art and aesthetic; Istanbul, the gateway between East and West and the collision between western and eastern values—Byzantine, Muslim, and secular culture.
Bradley is currently a Visiting Artist at Ringling College of Art & Design in Sarasota Florida. Learn more about his work here.
