Cheryl Strayed in the Spotlight

With pieces in Vanity FairSmithsonian and New York Magazine, Cheryl Strayed continues to attract media attention for the movie Wild based on her bestselling novel by the same name. The book, which caused Oprah to reinstitute her book club, recounts Cheryl’s redemptive solo hike along the Pacific Crest Trail following the death of her mother.

Starring, Oscar winner Reese Witherspoon, who was also its producer, the film has been widely hailed and was recently featured at The Virginia Film Festival just up the road in Charlottesville.

Not content to rest on her writing laurels, Cheryl also had a bit part in the movie as the woman who drops the character Cheryl off at the beginning of her journey.

Cheryl was awarded the We Are the Wild Inspiration Award by the Wilderness Society at an Oct. 16 celebration of the 50-year milestone of the Wilderness Act. The award recognizes a person who embodies the spirit of wilderness and its transformative power
